Earl Sterndale To Buxton Town Center

This route begins in Earl Sterndale and is a particularly hilly route until closer to Buxton town center and so may not be suitable for many running workout scenarios. The run takes advantage of the stunning landscape which surrounds you in all directions, particularly at the beginning of the route (if starting from Earl Sterndale).

Please be aware that this route involves running on the B5053 for two miles where there is no allocated pedestrian footpath. While generally quiet extra caution is advised, particularly in the darker months.
The route makes sure to avoid Buxton Road (A515) which is especially busy and instead joins Brierlow Road winding into Harpur Hill before cutting along the side of Grin Low and Buxton Country Park. From here we briefly join the A53 St John's Road before leaving to go through Gadley Wood and finally maneuvering around towards the town center. This route finishes on Devonshire Road by the University of Derby Buxton buildings and a short walk away from Buxton train station.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
