Classic mix of rolling hills, forest, and farmland, with a couple of pretty bits on the way.

This walk can easily be made shorter by not going the whole way through the forest. You don't need to follow the exact path I plotted out in there, it's just a rough outline and there's loads of little paths.

Park at Seahorse pub, then cross the road following the sign to Shalford Mill. Walk past the mill, just after it there's sometimes a field with sheep on the right. Then cross the next field you come to, this sometimes has a few horses in.

Cross the road then head up the path between two houses (sometimes the one on the left sells eggs). After about 150 metres there will be a gap in the hedge on the right to enter the big field that usually has some crops of some sort growing in it. If it's quiet you can often see a deer or two prancing around in the morning or evening.

Walk through this field until you can take a path on the left up into the forest.

You can either walk along the field at the top for good views (I have seen two different Olympic silver medalists jogging up here) or head into the forest. I tend to walk along the high field to the campsite at the end, then walk back through the forest, famed for its bluebells in Spring.

Once you have worked your way back to the West of the forest (the side you started at), you should be able to join a small path that takes you back to where you entered the big farm field. Retrace your steps back to the Seahorse for lunch/dinner/lemonade.

If you don't want to park at the pub or it's full, head further into the village and the scout hut on the right just after the bridge is free and usually has space. There is also a lovely cafe just over the road. The church just before the pub might have spaces free around it but I don't know their arrangements as well.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
