Hunebed Highway
Deze route brengt je naar typische brinkdorpen, Saksische boerderijen en een enkele keienstrook. Maar vooral: goede wegen waarop je lekker kunt doortrappen – dan giet 't haost vanzölf! Vanuit Assen fiets je zo de rust en ruimte binnen. Rolde, Anderen, Eext: stuk voor stuk esdorpen die niet op een ansichtkaart zouden misstaan. Niet verwonderlijk; je bent hier in Nationaal Park Drentsche Aa, een oeroud cultuurlandschap. Klinkers en asfalt wisselen elkaar regelmatig af. De kilometers langs de N34 – door Drenten omgedoopt tot ‘Hunebed Highway’ – tikken in rap tempo weg. Bij Ees duik je het bos in en maak je kennis met de flinten, de Drentse tegenhangers van kasseien. Een verplichte stop is Hunebed D30. Verder gaat het over brede paden van glad asfalt. Het licht golvende landschap trekt in rap tempo aan je voorbij. Weides lopen naadloos over in woeste gronden. Langs de randen van Nationaal Park Dwingelderveld trap je via Dwingeloo weer terug naar Assen. En, ging het haast vanzelf?
Startlocatie: Bij Regionaal Wielercentrum Noord (Kortbossen 5, Assen) zijn voldoende parkeerplaatsen.
