Vaals Plat
Meteen na vertrek duik je de Duitse grens over en wordt de hoogtemeterscore geopend. De Schneebergweg en Schlangenweg brengen de hartslag omhoog en de benen op temperatuur. Door het slechte wegdek lopen deze hellingen niet lekker. Doe daarom een barretje minder lucht in de bandjes. Als je op de prachtige Heyder Feldweg bent aanbeland, snap je waarom een beetje extra comfort geen overbodige luxe is. Je hobbelt hier over waar stukje Strade Bianche (900m). Terug naar Vaderlandse bodem. Voorbij de poorten van kasteel Erenstein is het de korte maar pittige Toupsberg die als eerste zijn opwachting maakt. Een onvervalste kuitenbijter. Enkele kilometers verderop, in het sfeervolle Rimburg, zijn het de Hoolgrub en Molenenweg die de benen doen branden. Na het passeren van de klim Nagelbeek in het gelijknamige buurtschap in Schinnen worden de glooiende wegen steeds steiler. In de regio Parkstad vormt de in het bos verscholen klim van Imstenrade de laatste echte horde.
