Beginning in Penruddock by the pub, this route gradually descends into Keswick with a finish overlooking Derwentwater. Except for one notable hill with a solid gradient around the middle of the route, this route is a relaxed one taking in the dramatic views Keswick has to offer and is perfect for a chilled long run, or one for pushing the pace with gravity on your side! The route begins on a small road before joining the main road and then turning off back onto small country roads again. Many of these are quiet and used mainly by locals but for extra safety, be visible and plan ahead especially in the darker months. This route does involve crossing a very busy main road into Keswick a few times. On the way you will run through quaint settlements nestled in a vast majestic landscape. Closer to Keswick, you join the old Threlkeld railway line and run along it's complete winding path from Threlkeld to Keswick running through covered and open sections along the way. As of 2026, part of the path is used for Keswick' own Park Run course. You might lose GPS coverage through this part of the route as the path is covered by trees.

Towards the end, the route cuts through Fitz Park briefly before joining the main road leading into the town center. It then goes past Booths supermarket and onward to the west side entrance of Crow Park before ending overlooking the lake.

The route begins conveniently by the main bus route from Penrith to Keswick. In the summer months this route runs regularly making it easy to get to the start of the route. You can alternatively add a few miles to the total distance by beginning from a more central location like Penrith which is not far away.
