KH Elektromagnetisme
Den danske fysiker Hans Christian Ørsted bemærkede under en forelæsning i 1820 (Nørregade 21), at en kompasnål drejede, når der løb elektrisk strøm gennem en ledning i nærheden.
Det var den første eksperimentelle dokumentation for, at elektricitet og magnetisme ikke er adskilte fænomener, men hænger direkte sammen. Ørsted offentliggjorde sine resultater i juli 1820, og de spredte sig hurtigt i Europas videnskabelige miljø og ledt egentligt til invention af elektrisk motor.
