Het Land Van Maas En Waal
Zoals de titel van de route al doet vermoeden doe je zowel de Maas als de Waal aan tijdens deze fietsroute. Je komt door Dodewaard, dat al sinds de 11e eeuw in documenten terugkomt. Net als Druten en andere dorpen langs de Waal, ontstonden deze waarschijnlijk al een aantal eeuwen eerder. Je fietst langs prachtige uiterwaarden, die geven een mooi uitzicht over de Maas en een hoop groen!
Om de route compleet te maken kom je natuurlijk ook verschillende interessante afstapmomenten tegen onderweg. Zo kun je stoppen bij het Bloemenpark Appeltern, waar je ruim 20 hectare aan prachtige tuinen en bloembedden kunt bezoeken. Maar er is ook veel geschiedenis te ontdekken in de omgeving. Zo kan je afstappen bij Stoomgemaal Appeltern, in de volksmond Stoomgemaal De Tuut. In het museum duik je in het verleden van het gemaal en de belangrijke rol doe het heeft gehad in de regio.
Let op! Er zitten twee pontjes op de route die niet het hele jaar door varen. Bekijk de vaartijden bij het afstapmoment. Fiets je wanneer het pontje niet vaart, blijf dan aan dezelfde kant van de rivier via de volgende knooppunten:
* Bij Ewijk: (99-82-Winssen) 83-84-15-27-23-12 (Druten) en pak hier de route weer op richting knp. 12.
* Bij Druten: 13-23-27-15-84-83 (Winssen) en pak hier de route weer op richting knp. 86.
* Bij Dodewaard: (67-16-) 17-79-80 (Slijk-Ewijk) en pak hier de route weer op richting knp. 39.
* Bij Slijk-Ewijk: 80-79-17 (Dodewaard) en pak hier de route weer op richting knp. 58.
