11. Cross the River Esk via the historic electric bridge and pick up the coastal John Muir Way trails.
12. Track through Prestonpans and Cockenzie, keeping to the dedicated sea-wall paths and coastal reserve tracks.
13. Follow the flat trail past Seton Sands onto the Longniddry Bents railway path extension.
Phase 3: The North Berwick Turnaround & Return
14. Traverse the Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve on firm, wide dirt and gravel paths.
15. Follow the multi-use gravel trails bordering Gullane Links and the Archerfield Estate.
16. Reach your 40km turnaround point on the western golf course paths right on the outskirts of North Berwick.
17. Return: Turn around and retrace your journey back along the coastal multi-use paths through Gullane and Longniddry.
18. Upon re-entering Musselburgh, track north along the Seafield Promenade path to skip the city center.
19. Re-join the North Edinburgh Path Network heading west, exiting at Inverleith Row to finish back at 13 Kinnear Road.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
