Liberation Route Brabant
De Liberation Route Brabant vertelt het verhaal van de bevrijding, maar toont ook wat de Tweede Wereldoorlog heeft betekend voor gewone Brabanders. Acht fietsroutes, verspreid over Noord-Brabant, leiden je langs Brabant Herinnert-verhalen, luisterzuilen van de Liberation Route Europe, monumenten en musea, die samen de impact van de oorlog op Noord-Brabant zichtbaar maken. Bij Natuurpoort Wouwse Plantage, waar deze fietsroute start, staat een informatiepaneel met daarop de route.
Black Friday: Not in Vain
De Slag om de Schelde is een grote militaire operatie in het noorden van België en het zuidwesten van Nederland. De operatie start op 1 oktober 1944 en duurt tot 8 november van dat jaar. Het belangrijkste doel van het Canadese 1e Leger (inclusief Poolse en Britse eenheden) is het vrijmaken van de Schelde, zodat de geallieerde bevoorradingsschepen toegang krijgen tot de haven van Antwerpen. De haven is echter onbruikbaar zolang de Duitsers heer en meester zijn over de Westerschelde.
The Black Watch of Canada, met soldaat John Dubetz binnen haar gelederen, krijgt op 13 oktober 1944 de opdracht de spoordijk van de treinverbinding van Bergen op Zoom naar Vlissingen in te nemen. John heeft het strijdtoneel overzien en heeft er een hard hoofd in. Het ondergelopen open veld dat zijn bataljon moet doorkruisen is bezaaid met mijnen en boobytraps. De Canadezen graven zich in langs de spoorlijn en in de hoger gelegen bossen bij Lindonk. Het moeilijk begaanbare, open terrein en de route langs het dijkje maakt hen tot een makkelijke prooi.
