Important Pacer and Runner Instructions

Modified to reflect the 2026 NYC Marathon Bronx course changes and to avoid overcrowding in Central Park.

1. Stay with Your Pace Group

This course takes place primarily on sidewalks, with frequent stops, particularly along First and Fifth Avenues. Stay alert and be mindful of your surroundings.

If you find yourself ahead of your pace group, slow down as needed. This is normal, and you can always rejoin the group.

2. If You Fall Behind

Don't panic. Stop at the fluid station at Mile 6 in Marcus Garvey Park and wait for the next pace group. This will allow you to continue with support rather than running alone.

3. Group Etiquette

We stop at all red lights and pause our watches until it is safe to proceed.

If a large portion of the group takes a bathroom break, pacers may hold the group briefly to allow runners to rejoin.

4. Team Spirit

Communicate with your pacers and fellow runners. Let someone know if you are dropping back or need assistance.

The strength of this run is in the group. Support one another and enjoy the miles together!

5. Sidewalks, Bridges, and Fluid Station

To ensure runner safety and minimize congestion, please follow these instructions:

First Avenue and Willis Avenue Bridge: Run along the west-side sidewalk (runner's left). Proceed single file across the bridge.

Madison Avenue Bridge: Use the north-side sidewalk (runner's right). Proceed single file across the bridge.

Fluid Station: Relocated to Marcus Garvey Park (Mile 6).

Fifth Avenue (96th Street to 60th Street): Run along the east-side sidewalk (runner's left). Reduce your pace as necessary to avoid congestion associated with Cancer Walk staging areas and pedestrian traffic.

Go Flyers!

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
