Same problem as Gordon Rendell below.
encountered this problem today at 11'45 hours. UNABLE TO CALCULATE ROUTE
Sorry, we had a temporary problem following maintenance on a server overnight. The issue is now fixed and we are looking at how to prevent any reoccurence.
For anyone who is a Premium member...if this happens again, try switching the Map Type in the route planner to one of the Google maps, as these use a different routing engine which was unaffected.
I too have encountered this problem several times, and it's happened again today, resulting in this error message box:
"(i) Unable to Calculate Route
Sorry - we were unable to auto-plot to this point. Please turn off the Auto-Plot switch to continue plotting
[✔ OK]"
I'm giving you lots of detail in the hope that you might be able to trace and solve this long-running issue.
In the early hours today (05:00-07:00 approx), Friday 12 June 2020, I was unable to plot ANY routes on ANY device or browser, if auto-plot was ON: I tried repeatedly. Then (while I was recording a screen capture video of the problem!) auto-plot started working again at 06:58 or 06:59 BST. It instantly changed from nothing working with auto-plot to everything working normally. I'm hoping this information might enable you to trace what changed on your systems at this time.
I have a short screen capture video of the problem at 06:45 BST this morning. I can send this to you if you would please send me an email to which I can reply.
To be specific, I tried all of the following in every combination; auto-plot did not work with ANY of these (prior to 06:58 or 06:59 BST):
Devices:
• iPad 4 iOS 10.3.3 – Safari
- PR desktop version
- PR mobile version
• Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) – Chrome 69.0.3497.100
- PR mobile version
Auto-Plot mode:
• in both By Road or On Foot modes. (I didn't test By Bike.)
Maps:
• Paths map (OSM)
• Google Street Map (Google)
Map locations:
• Maps of: Camden Town, London; Edinburgh, Scotland; your area of Godalming, Surrey; Paris, France; Stuttgart, Germany. (ie. everywhere!)
Distance:
• Short or long stretches of road.
• Even plotting a short section of straight road failed.
Plot order:
• It made no difference if it was the start point (A) with auto-plot on, or if several points were first plotted manually (which worked) and then auto-plot was turned on: in every case, AS SOON AS I CLICKED THE MAP (OR THE MOBILE PLOT BUTTON) WITH AUTO-PLOT ON, THE ERROR OCCURRED. Every single time.
It's particularly bad because all unsaved work is lost. Even if I click "OK" to the error message, the plot function freezes with the spinning circles over the crosshairs: I can drag the map around, but cannot plot. I have to reload the browser page and start again.
You have a great product here, which I've used for many years. (My earliest route is # 16089!) Coincidentally, after all the time for walking we have had recently, I was thinking of finally subscribing to Premium, so that I can save more private routes. But glitches like this make me think twice.
Users have reported this problem for over 3 years here. It's highly likely that many others have also been affected but NOT reported it. So I do hope you can finally identify and fix this problem.
Is this problem happening only at particular times of day?
I don't think your fix is working for "Sorry - we were unable to auto-plot to this point." It appears at random. If I go away and not use Plotarote for a few days, it will start working again, sometimes. This has been happening for about 2 months now - all my maps are in Colorado, specifically north, the foothills. Currently I cannot plot a route in the same location I plotted yesterday (and am trying a different set of trails).

I keep getting the error Sorry - we were unable to auto-plot to this point. I switch maps, restart my computer, try all the usual things. It happens with maps I have used like a day earlier and want to remap the run.
This happens every third plot. Nothing fixes it....

Is this problem happening at particular times of day? We haven't been able to replicate it here but I'm wondering if it only happens at certain times of day, perhaps due to a conflict with other server activity.
I am having this same problem - it seems to come and go. It does not matter what I do when the problem is occcuring and then I wait several hours and come back to it and it then works. Currently it will not auto plot anything - by bike/road or on foot or using any map type. Just tried it again and now it is working..... very frustrating.
Well, now it's really working even for me :) I have tried plotting the way in Kyoto city using the bicycle auto-plot. Now seems all fine.
