This one is aimed at a simple winter route with great lanes, that are normally quiet, free of farmers mud and very few pot holes hence, not only a winter route, but a bad weather one you can be confident in.

There is a bit of steady climbing, in fact starts going up slightly from Oscroft, into Kelsall, where it gets more seriously up for several miles, beyond the Crows Nest and up to the top of the Sandstone ridge just past Chapel Ln.
Then it is ostensibly down hill until the climb up to Beeston and then downhill cross tailwind all the way home.
This is meant as a no cafe ride, but there is the option of the Crows Nest of course at 13 miles and way to early, so a diversion to Rose Farm, down Quarry Ln would make that 16 miles, which is more palatable which in winter is sometimes a necessity to warm up.
This route could be lengthened by a few miles at the beginning to make the Crows nest 16+ miles by starting out via Platts Ln and Saighton and Waverton, but if the South Easterly is stiff then tough going from Saighton.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
