Great post, Richard!
This if for Sky Broadband customers who cannot access the maps. It looks like the "Broadband Shield" service is blocking this for some reason. Difficult to know which bad category it thinks the maps fall under.
But anyway, here's the solution:
This worked for me, and I hope will help someone! Next time I speak to Sky, I'll mention this site as safe and hopefully they can do some magic.
The workaround for VM worked for me :-) Thanks Julien!
Hi Gary!
So far, we haven't found a fix which would prevent this from happening altogether, but the workaround for this has been shared in this topic.
If you read the topic and apply the workaround, you should be able to use all the maps again.
Kind regards,
Julien
I have used trails mapping succesfully for a long time. Now I cannot get the maps to load at all. Terrain & street maps are fine. But not trails. I am a Virgin media customer. Is there a fix for this?
Hi Colin,
Thanks for sharing this.
I realise that I haven't mentioned Sky Broadband here. Someone got in touch with me about this on the support, so I was aware of Sky Broadband as well as Virign Media.
Sorry about that.
So far we haven't been able to find a fix on our end, so the workaround is all we have.
All the best,
Julien
FYI I changed broadband supplier to Sky this morning. I was not able to access OS maps from laptop or phone. From the comments below I tried switching off Sky Shield which fixes the problem. I've no idea who can cure the problem where the OS map falls foul of Sky and Virgin privacy controls. All other map types were absolutely fine.
Hi Roger,
I'm sorry I totally missed your last post and just saw it because I sent out a support message linking to this topic.
Have you been able to resolve this issue on your other devices since the 30th of May?
Best regards,
Julien
Hi Julien
I checked my Virgin Media Online Security Settings and both Virus Protection and Parental Controls were greyed out (I enabled Parental Controls and added www.plotaroute.com as an allowed website but it would save the changes). I then specified 8.8.8.8 as my DNS default and this seams to have cured the problem on my PC, however I am still having the same issues on my mobile and ipad. I'm not hat technincal so am not sure wether this a router of VirginMedia issue or how to ensure the changes are applied across all my devices.
Thanks
Roger
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the additional information!
As a matter of fact, someone also got in touch about this issue, which was router-related and not VirginMedia-related.
The fix was the same:
"I altered the privacy settings, specifically the Broadband setting. I got a result by both changing the overall security (no parental controls) and initially by making Plotaroute an exception."
Hope this helps if some of you are not VirginMedia customers but still have the same issue.
Julien
