Banyoles To Besalu Las Ruedas Ride

This is a very scenic 40 km level 5 cycle ride from Banyoles to Besalu and back with a total elevation gain of 550 metres , We start from the lakeside at Banyoles cycle around to Porqueres and a gentle climb on a tarmac road ( GI-524) for a couple of km , We then ride on wide tracks following a ridge through , there were a few muddy puddles and fallen trees to get past on our reccy. there was one very short rocky descent (where some might choose to walk) and a couple of muddy puddles that we needed to navigate and then descend down into the village of Serinya .  After riding through the village we take the old tarmac road and bridge to cross the El Fluvia River .  We turn off the road to take more wide tracks and following a ridge all the way until we descdend into Besalu for a much needed drink stop in the main square .  We return following the main road before heading back on to the top of ridge (again there is a steeper 100 m rock climb here that some might prefer to walk up and a stream to ford)  .  The ridge road then joins up with a gravel Via Verde path that crosses the El Fluvia on a weir and follows the river on a route towards Esponella .  The Via Verde then climbs out of the valley ( a couple of sharp turns here that you will need extra power and a low gear on your Electric Bikes) and follows a route across the centre of the plain back to the northern end of the Banyoles lake, We then return  to our meeting place  by following a tarmac cycle track  around the eastern side of the lake .
