Thame 2 Benson Via Chiltern Winery

This one is adapted slightly from previous versions I have completed, mainly to avoid a couple of ver narrow fast down hill sections that are gravelly at best, because only a car’s width. So the route changes from the the top of Chinnor hill, in fact go straight on past Chinnor hill now and meander across to Fingest, instead of the actual Bledlow ridge route before. Hoping this version will be a bit better, as the down hill sections were precarious and a killer on the fingers, due to braking on the Look.
However, this route is aimed at a tough hilly ride, but it all happens in the first 17 miles to the top, where the winery is and that last half mile is a brute at 15% and peaks at 20%.
as it is virtually up all the way to 17 mile point and the winery, with a couple of long descents.

However, it would be easy to cut the loop out to the winery, if I wanted a slightly easier climbing route and a couple of miles Les by cutting across from Fingest to Turville and Northend .
It would cut off 3 miles and 200 feet.

Benson has several cafes and a marina cafe on the river. However, there’s a nice little one in the high street just before the marina cafe.
The whole route try’s to avoid as much Aroad as possible and hence the return to Thame is via Towesy, as the start.
The A40 & M40 creates issues and hence, the meander, to cross these in the simplest way.

The route may seem strange in Benson, but that is because it takes us past at least 2 cafe’s.
The route is lovely all round and possibly my favourite ever. Keep it on my Garmin ready for our Thame visits
