Popular Routes
Elevation prediction is very much dependent on the underlying DEM model. I've found the best results is to sync the route over to Connect, and then duplicate the route on Connect - which forces it to use Garmin's elevation modelling which seems more in line with the underlying terrain.
https://support.ridewithgps.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419010957467-Grade-Elevation-and-GPS-Accuracy-FAQ is a good article about the difficultes - basically in a nutshell the maps tend to be gridded quite coarsely for elevation and the real terrain is normally far more chaotic
Hi
I'm plotting routes , then when ridden find the elevation is vastly different to reality , not 10-20% out which might happen (just) but up to 100% . it means you might think ' I can't ride that today there is 2800 m of gain' , but I did expecting a hard day and it was 1800m only and fine. im using a garmin 530 and a new garmin explore2 as well. Any help appreciated !!
