The site of the Tunnel Hill 100/50 mile Ultra Marathon. Boy oh boy that's a race. The trail is a rail to trail which means this trail use to be railroad tracks. With that being said it has no real hills unless your from Kansas or something. Then these could be considered mountains I guess for them. Trail is crushed rock and well maintained way above the state of Illinois standards. Not sure how that's even possible but I am guessing its because the maintenance crews really care about their work. Says something about someone that works for $9 dollars an hour but truely works like they make $25 dollars an hour. Lots of animals on and around the trails. From a distance I was thinking I witnessed a cool skunk near the trail but it ended up being a politician. Was kind of a downer but the tunnel was well worth the trip.

I ran the 50 miler in November and this trail is one of the best. Great for kids and families. Only running, biking, and walking allowed on this trail. The section I mapped was my run and the tunnel hill course. 100 miler you do what I did twice. I would have done the 100 but I left my Cape and blue suit at home.
