Route starts and ends in front of Grandwood Park Park District building. Look for the water tower that says "Grandwood Park."

The northern part of route is parallel to Hutchins Road. Almond Road and Hutchins would make a perfect continuous route, but Hutchins has no sidewalks and narrow shoulders. So please run through the neighborhood via Edgewood and Woodland.

When crossing Grand Avenue, use the west side of the intersection only, since that is the side with a crosswalk. Do not cross against the signal. Even if you do everything correctly, assume that drivers turning right from Grand to Almond might intentionally run the red light without a reckoning.

South of Grand, the route has sidewalks or wide bikeways the entire route, but still be careful, please. Beware of golfers, since they are just the worst.

Route ends at Fairfield Ln. Out and back. Eight-ish miles round trip.

Some maps indicate that you can continue south via Stone Manor, and then a secret path to Belvidere Rd. The intersection of Belvidere and Almond is a death trap. So please turn around at Fairfield.

Enjoy! Afterwards, attend a Lake County Coyotes rugby game at Hutchins Athletic Field, on the east side of Hutchins, a 60-second walk north of the Park District building.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
