    Je begint je rit goed op het gladde asfalt van de Praamweg, dwars door de Oostvaardersplassen. Turend over de graslanden, rietvlaktes, bossen en grote kuddes konikpaarden, is het moeilijk voor te stellen dat dit gebied ooit bedoeld was als industriezone. Dan beklim je de Oostvaardersdijk, waarop je uitkijkt over het glinsterende Markermeer en de waterpartijen van de Oostvaardersplassen. De naam Oostvaarders is een verwijzing naar de zeelieden, de Oostvaarders, die vroeger naar Nederlands-Indiƫ voeren. Tijd om gas te geven op de dijk. Aanbeland in Lelystad dokker je over de klinkers van de Bataviahaven en zie je het VOC-schip de Batavia. Na een fase over een fraai buitendijks fietspad, duik je de polders in. Verwacht geen kaarsrechte wegen, want je kronkelt over een beschut fietspad door het Rivierduingebied. Een bosrijke lus door het Gelderse Hout en Hollandse Hout brengt je terug bij het startpunt, waar je het voltooien van je fietstocht met een drankje kunt (Bata)vieren.
