    Rondom de waterlinieforten vind je objecten die je herinneren aan deze speciale geschiedenis, bijvoorbeeld unieke houten huizen en plofduikers. Ga mee op verkenning in dit gebied!

    Wist je dat er binnen een kring van 1 kilometer rond een waterliniefort alleen houten huizen gebouwd mochten worden? Dit werd gedaan zodat de huizen snel afgebrand konden worden bij oorlogsdreiging en het schootsveld weer vrij was voor de soldaten. De wet die hierbij hoort, de zogenaamde Kringenwet, was tot 1963 van kracht. Het oosten van Utrecht is daardoor prachtig groen gebleven. Alle bijzondere verhalen van het waterlinieverleden van Utrecht kom je te weten tijdens deze route. Bijvoorbeeld over de dubbele fortenkring aan de oostkant van de Domstad, omdat dit gebied niet onder water gezet kon worden, of over de plofduiker, een sluis met dynamiet om de watertoevoer naar de stad te stoppen.
