MG- Plassey Cafe Via Erbistock, Quiet Lanes.
This route is a top favourite & optimised for the best lanes, that’s especially so between 10 - 34 miles, as that stretch has some crappy lanes, so I have refined the route significantly to the point that I can’t really make it any better ( through experience)
I also have another route to Staples cafe at Plaseey, which is longer & hillier. It’s called 2 Doves/ Plasey option (55 miles & 2700’)
This one is easier f course, but
There is an easy option to increase it slightly as below.
Also good for NW winds, as there is surprising hedge row cover in spring and a few stunning lanes.
The route also allows us to drop in on the stunning river view spot of the ‘Boat Inn’ ( with fab outside space- truely the finest spot in the counties hence, the tricked up loop at Erbistock.
The route winds aimlessly around the southern end in order to avoid as much A road as poss, however, the bits of A road we have to use are excellent and not busy.
Cafe stop at ‘Staples’ ( Plassey caravan park ) Then another meander back around Wrexham industrial estate, trying to avoid the NW winds that would effect us on the main & direct B road back to Holt.
The route is amazingly quiet & scenic, as it is all little lanes but all are pretty good, few narrow ones with some gravel etc, but hardly any potholes. Not a route for winter or after recent rain of course, although nothing my Whyte can’t handle, best after a week of dry weather.
Even the route around Wrexham industrial site is good. You would never know you were riding around it, as hedge rows are high and lovely very quiet lanes.
The only bit to be aware about is when picking up Francis lane, as the route delivers us at 90 degrees to the main road, which you can’t cross, however, there is a lovely path to take to the right and then you cross the carriageway, just 100 mtrs away before the roundabout and go left along side the highway to Francis lane.
Staples cafe is a fab scenic spot, one of the best to be fair in the very swanky caravan park of Plassey.
This version has been updated to my Garmin 8 Jun 22.
This ride can easily be made a bit hillier by changing the return from Holt, by going via Wetreins lane , Tilston, Brown knowl & Nart hill. It would add 400’ of assent and only 2 miles, so it would also turn it into a 50 miler door to door, but not quite as big as the other full route in Plota route & on my Garmin.
