Brabants Kloosterpad: Ronde Zundert
Hoefgetrappel. In de verte draaft een monnik door de schemering. Hij is lid van het Noord-Franse Trappistenklooster van Mont Des Cats en zoekt een toevluchtsoord voor zijn orde. In het Frankrijk van de 19de eeuw is het dankzij de Franse Revolutie niet meer veilig om te blijven.
Veilig oord
Die veilige plek vindt de orde eerst in Tilburg, en later ook hier, in Zundert. Abdij Maria Toevlucht is geboren. Het is een avontuurlijke voorgeschiedenis voor een klooster dat nog steeds volop in bedrijf is. En je kunt je in deze omgeving zomaar voorstellen dat er meer avontuurlijks is gebeurd. Zo vlak bij de grens, rond Meersel-Dreef, in de dichte bossen van natuurgebied De Pannenhoef of in het Mastbos. Laat je fantasie onderweg gerust de vrije loop.
