    Ten noordoosten van Heeze vind je De Strabrechtse Heide, het grootste aaneengesloten heidegebied van Brabant met tal van vennen, bossen en stuifzand. Op het eerste gezicht denk je er een onmetelijke vlakte van alleen struik- en dopheide te zien, maar niets is minder waar.

    Natuurliefhebbers genieten hier van een afwisselend landschap met mooie vergezichten. Je komt langs het Beuven, het grootste ven van Nederland. Hier groeien bijzondere planten zoals het waterlepeltje en de vleesetende zonnedauw. Bij de vennetjes wemelt het van de libellen en als je goed kijkt zie je hier de heikikker of misschien zelfs een rugstreeppad.

    Tip: Bij de naastgelegen Natuurpoort De Plaetse bevindt zich een schaapskooi, waar een kudde van 350 Kempische heideschapen haar thuis heeft. Bij Heidecafé de Strabrechtse Heide geniet je van een drankje of lunch. Ontdek er ook de heidetuin, het insectenhotel en de bijenkasten.

    Deze fietsroute is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking met Staatsbosbeheer. Erik Schram, boswachter in Natuurgrenspark De Groote Heide, beveelt de fietsroute aan:

    "Slingerende fietspaden over de grootste aaneengesloten heide van Noord-Brabant."
