The ROTARY WAY STAGE 3 Walkden to Hulton Park

The motorway now fills the gap between Walkden and Farnworth, both
physically and noisily, so we must walk through fields with houses and industry never far away for the first half of this stage, but later we emerge into open fields and can again feel ourselves in the country. The incessant drone of the motorway is never far away but this stage is mainly off main highways so the green ramble is all the more inviting for the majority of the walk.

Cross Worsley Road North, Walkden and into Grosvenor Road. Walk about 100 yds along Grosvenor Road to a flight of steps down to the disused railway line. If this is flooded return to the road and continue to the end and turn right into the park,
The path emerges into a park with various metalled paths. Any route will end up at Cleggs Lane. Best keep to the right.

On reaching the A5082 (Clegg’s Lane) Turn right and cross the M61 motorway and immediately on the far side descend some steps and go through the gap stile to a footpath which runs parallel to the motorway through a wooded area , After a little more than half a mile you will see a bridge over the motorway on your left, ignore this and continue for a short distance and turn right towards houses. The path almost meets Stevensen Close at which point bear left to follow the path about 1 mile parallel to the motorway. Pass across Anchor Lane until arriving at a stile on the left about 160 yards from the motorway footbridge. Cross the stile and head down the right-hand side of the field to cross stiles at either side of the motorway footbridge. On the far (south) side turn right, follow the track between two fences alongside the motorway and Brackley golf course, (Better perhaps to walk along the side of the fairway only a few yards from the motorway)
and, at the end of the fence bear left towards the pylon (or if you are by the fairway head for the pylon) at the edge of the golf course. About midway between the motorway and the pylon, turn right along a path through rough grass and parallel to the motorway until reaching a fence. Bear right through a stile and along a footpath parallel to the motorway on the right, past a footpath leading to the subway under the motorway and continue until a right-angle bend in the footpath to the left. Follow the footpath to the left, through two stiles widely separated to reach the A6 Salford Road opposite Exide Technologies. At the main road, turn right, and along the A6 to the roundabout about quarter of a mile away. Immediately the other side of the roundabout, still on the A6,
From the roundabout walk along the A6 for 500 yards to Rosemary lane. Turn left down to Adises Farm and just past the farm turn right in about 250 yds turn left down a long straight path(500 yds). Then right and shortly left towards Spout Fold Farm . The path bears right missing the farm. Then right for about 200 yds then left toward another farm. Again there is another diversion diagonally to the right before the farm to reach a footpath junction at the end of the field, Turn left here and keep the housing on your right side to arrive at an open field. Bear right and follow the right hand field boundary to arrive at a footbridge over a stream and, bearing right, the A579 Newbrook Road.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
