Head past the White Hart and turn left at the end pnto Oldham Road. Go down Oldham Road and continue just past where Coverhill Road meets Oldham Road.

Turn right past the houses and go up the lane. Keep left where the path forks (it looks like you're in someone's parking area). Go straight ahead then turn left down the hill. Follow the path and where it finishes continue straight ahead and go up the hill past the Spinners Arms.

Admire the views to your right! Keep following the road.

Turn right onto Lower Turf Lane. There is a raised pavement on the left hand side of the road, for safety.

When you reach the main road, cross over and go straight ahead. Turn left taking the public footpath along the right hand wall of Dawsons Field. Stay to the right along the dry stone wall. Before you get to the farm, cut diagonally across the field through the gate and to the road (Thorpe Lane).

Turn right onto Thorpe Lane then immediately left onto Brighton Road.

Go up Brighton Road then turn left at the yellow grit bin onto Back O'Th'Low Road. Fork right onto Top O'Th'Meadows Lane. Follow this along and turn left at the bottom, then right down the Bridlepath (Medlock Valley Way) and down the steps.

The bridlepath is a bit muddy to start with but soon dries out! The path then narrows for a short while. Just as it opens out fork right along the wall (the King's Meadow memorial forest). Fork left when you come to the end of the 'meadow'.

Cross over the small road and follow the path down towards the reservoir. Turn left at the picnic benches, go over the bridge and follow the path up with the reservoir to your right hand side, bending round to the right.

When you get to the end of this path turn up to your left. The path is a bit windy. At the top turn right. Keep following this path for a while...Upper Strinesdale Reservoir is down to your right. Be careful of the couple of cobbled channels across the path.

Keep following the path, keeping the river on your right.

Go over the stile and keep following the path up until you reach the road. Go through the black kissing gate and turn right onto Roebuck Lane.

At the Roebuck Inn crossroads take the second left up Whitegates Lane. This will eventually bend round to the right and become Back Lane. Keep going! Go down the hill...the road turns into Doctor Lane and will bring you to the crossroads with Huddersfield Road/Platting Road.

Turn left and then right when you come to the public footpath. The path follows a straight line across the fields. Keep heading towards the openings ahead of you. You are on a path parallel to Platting Road.

This will bring you out onto Burnedge Lane. Turn right and follow Burnedge Lane and continue down past St Anne's primary school. Turn left onto Platting Road and cross over at the crossroads back towards Lydgate.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
