DESCRIPTION

This walk follows sections of three walking trails in Eltham North and Research - the Diamond Creek Trail, the Research Trail, and the Maroondah Aqueduct Trail. The total distance is approximately 8.9 kms and covers a variety of terrain and scenery with some great views near the end of the Maroondah Aqueduct Trail. The walk is relatively flat and gentle for most of its length with only a couple of short ascents, one short descent and a longer descent down into the Diamond Creek valley.

There are a number of interesting points of interest along the walk including the Eltham North Adventure Playground, the Edendale Community Environment Farm, tree stump carvings, information about one of the Heidelberg School artists (Clara Southern) and her paintings, and a look at weeding work completed by Melbourne Water in Swiper's Gully.

The highlight of the walk is the historically significant (and now decommissioned) Maroondah Aqueduct along which you will see the original concrete channels, old bridges, old metal pipes used for the inverted siphon sections, Monterey Pines (used to stabilise the aqueduct), and at the end, good views over the Diamond Creek valley to the Kinglake Ranges. A short photograph) to remove it and return to the map.

CALCULATE CALORIES

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
