Popular Routes
Hi Roger,
I'm sorry to hear this.
Street Map does seem to be the main issue when it comes to loading tiles.
I'll update this topic as soon as the devs have made any changes.
Julien
Sorry Julien - plotting again today, things have slipped backwards. Still better than before but tiles do not fill if on very large scale views. (Street Map)
Work in progress still I think.
Thanks, Winfried. :)
The devs are still looking to improve the speed of some base maps, especially the default Street Map.
During the last 10 days or so the responsiveness of the Plotaroute web site and map tiles have been a lot better. Thanks for the server improvements!
Brilliant, thanks for the quick answer, Roger. =)
I was just about to update you when I saw your message.
Yes I'm relieved to say all seems to be well. I have plotted and adjusted, using Street Map, over 500k of the route I am hoping to do later this spring and all seems to be very good.
THANK YOU!
I'm sorry to hear the street map seemed very slow when you sent your message last week.
Is this still the case?
The team has made some improvements to the tile servers, so I hope not.
@Mark: about (c), I have just updated both this and that topic: Cycle Map should work again.
Kind regards,Julien
Hi all
Current observations using Firefox v149.0 on a Windows 11 (build 25H2) laptop, with Adblock and Ghostery enabled: (a) very fast-to-instantaneous: Street, Terrain, Trails, Transport, World Topo, Topo/OS; (b) fast (visibile to naked eye) build up of tiles: Satellite, Hybrid, Accuterra (US); (c) dead (blank page, tiles not uploading): Cycle (dead also in Google Chrome).
The above speeds apply to both initial page loads and subsequent page-refreshments following a +/- zoom.
Cheers
Mark
No improvement. I would go so far as say that "Street map" is unusable. As I am presently trying to plan a major tour of 1000k this is becoming a deal breaker.
Hi everyone,
Just letting you know that Arnaud is currently looking into this.
He has just made an update to try to further enhance the speed of the tiles.
He's investigating why some maps are blank for some users and fine for others (no issues with Cycle and Transport for me right now).
As reported by Mark here, there also seems to be a difference between the website and the web app.
We'll update this topic as soon as there is any news.
Best regards,Julien
This morning, OSM Cycle and Transport are blank. OS map is back.
Response from other maps is quick
As reported elsewhere, OSM Cycle map doesn't show any tiles ar all, just blank
Trails and Transport maps load fine, others remain very slow.
Hello, we are aware of this problem and add a partial solution this morning. Satellite maps, Cycling maps, Trails map and TOPO Maps (including OS maps) should be really faster now. Can you confirm this?
Arnaud
For me it is even worse, map does not load and I'm stuck with an empty screen. Other functions work but I cannot create anything.
I have this problem as well. Deathly slow loading of map - exploring possible route changes is barely possible.
Cache cleared etc.
Other map otions load much quicker than Streetmap.
What is going on.
Mon 23rd March. Also seeing very slow opening of some saved routes OSM tiles. Happens also in some of the small preview windows before opening to full screen.Have been opening, viewing and updating a number of routes this morning, some have been fine, others incredibly slow, it made me check that my internet was still connected.PC restarted this morning, Using Firefox 148.0.2, cache cleared, Win 11 Pro, 64 GB Ram, Fibre Broadband - checked at 157Mbps
I'm seeing the same thing - slow updating of Street Map tiles. Less of a problem with other map types.
I was using PR heavily for the last few days, planning some rides in Yorkshire. No problems with speed :)
I noticed that when the updating of the map tiles becomes (very) slow it often helps to save the route-in-progress and then click on the reload page of your web browser.
Often the map tiles update as normal again after that (at least for quite a while).
