Hi,Lately quite often when I move the map or zoom in the OSM map tiles don't show (grey square) or refresh. Sometimes I have to wait minutes before the tile is rendered.
Is this a problem in Plotaroute or OSM? On openstreetmap.org I the map tiles update instantly. Thanks for any insight.Regards, Winfried
Hi Winfried,
Thanks for bringing this up.
Does this happen on any zoom level or a specific one?
I have just tried replicating this issue and I might have stumbled upon the problem you're talking about. It seems to happen if I'm at a 100m/500ft (scale on the bottom left of the map) or even further zoomed in.
Zooming out and back in seems to help, but doesn't quite fix it.I'll report this to the devs right away.
Please let me know if your issue is the same or if it's something else.
Kind regards,Julien
Hi Julien,
Today the map updates work perfectly but yes the problem was most prominent when zoomed in.
Thanks for the quick answer, Winfried.I've asked the devs to check this out.I'll update this post with any news I get.
Regards,Julien
The devs have looked into it and weren't able to replicate the issue.
Because it seemed to be better the day after you wrote your post, they're thinking this might be linked to some updates which run from time to time on our servers. So this might be a momentary issue, more than a bug per se.
If this happens again, please let me know, and I'll ask them to look into it again.
Hi Julien,Tonight when I started plotting a route everything was smooth. About 20 minutes later the map tile updates were getting slow again. For the last 5 minutes I have basically not been able to get *any* tile updates so I have to stop for tonight.
I hope this can be resolved because Plotaroute is my favourite route editor.
Regards,Winfried

I'm verry sorry for the late reply. I wasn't available last week.
Does this still happen to you?I'm curious, because I have no other messages about this: no other forum posts and nothing on the help desk.Because of this a general issue seems unlikely, and I'm wondering if there is something else than the server load to investigate.Could you get in touch with me via the help desk and send me the screenshot you wanted to share. This way we can exchange messages directly and hopefully get to the bottom of this issue.
Hi Julien,Strange phenomenon... I was already wondering why nobody else was complaining on the forum...And yes, it still happens quite often. At other moments everything is working normally or at least acceptable.I am connected to the internet via a glasfibre 100 mbit/s connection so that cannot be the problem. And I have tried several different computers and browsers, all same effect. When the performance goes down again I will try to make a short screen recording and contact you via the help desk link below. Thanks for looking into this.Regards,Winfried
I'm sad to hear that you're still having this issue.Looking forward to your screen recording and we'll look more into it then.
All the best,Julien
Since we last spoke, we have had a new topic about slow response time on Plotaroute, which I have just updated after a team meeting.
Feel free to read my post, and hopefully, you no longer face those issues.
The map tiles not (or very slow) loading is occurring less frequently last few weeks. This was when using the 'street map' base layer, haven't checked if the problems also occurs with the other map layers.
Thanks for looking into this,Winfried
Thanks, Winfried!
So far, feedback mainly seems to point towards map tiles, so this is what we'll focus on.
I'm happy it's gotten better over the last few weeks, with the last changes the devs made. :)

I noticed that when the updating of the map tiles becomes (very) slow it often helps to save the route-in-progress and then click on the reload page of your web browser.
Often the map tiles update as normal again after that (at least for quite a while).
I was using PR heavily for the last few days, planning some rides in Yorkshire. No problems with speed :)
I'm seeing the same thing - slow updating of Street Map tiles. Less of a problem with other map types.
Mon 23rd March. Also seeing very slow opening of some saved routes OSM tiles. Happens also in some of the small preview windows before opening to full screen.Have been opening, viewing and updating a number of routes this morning, some have been fine, others incredibly slow, it made me check that my internet was still connected.PC restarted this morning, Using Firefox 148.0.2, cache cleared, Win 11 Pro, 64 GB Ram, Fibre Broadband - checked at 157Mbps
I have this problem as well. Deathly slow loading of map - exploring possible route changes is barely possible.
Cache cleared etc.
Other map otions load much quicker than Streetmap.
What is going on.
For me it is even worse, map does not load and I'm stuck with an empty screen. Other functions work but I cannot create anything.
